_This is the English reading version of the Dutch news item [GPT-6 Astra bouwt een robotarm in SolidWorks met één opdracht](https://vibecad.nl/2026/10/19/gpt-6-astra-solidworks-robotarm/)._

This video by [MecAgent](https://www.youtube.com/@MecAgent_off) shows how GPT-6
Astra builds a robot arm in SolidWorks 2026. One prompt, and the agent models eleven
parts plus the assembly around them.

MecAgent is a separate program next to your CAD software. You keep your own SolidWorks
session open, give one prompt, and the agent draws sketch by sketch and puts the
features into your feature tree. You can take over at any moment, and what you get
back is an ordinary SolidWorks file you carry on editing yourself. There is a free
plan to try it: [mecagent.com](https://mecagent.com/).

The figures from this run: one prompt, 11 parts, 1 main assembly, 35 minutes. The
model is built parametrically with a feature tree of its own and is fully editable.
The assembly rotates correctly around the axes meant for it. What is not right yet
are the sketches the features are built from: those are not fully constrained. MecAgent
says so itself: this is still far removed from a manufacturable product.

**My verdict:** this looks very good, and if you are already in the SolidWorks ecosystem
it is immediately useful: the agent works in your own files, with your own feature
tree. As soon as you start vibecadding you barely use SolidWorks itself, and because
all of it is not developed far enough yet you as a user still have to steer a lot
by hand. For vibecadding the emphasis should therefore lie more on the AI model
than on the CAD package: that model determines the result much more than the program
underneath, and then an expensive package quickly becomes overkill for this purpose.

Which CAD program suits your work, and which AI model for what task: that is on
[Which CAD program?](https://vibecad.nl/en/cad-programs/) and [Which AI model?](https://vibecad.nl/en/ai-models/).**
Keep an eye on this site for updates and tests.** I keep following these connections
and publish here what works in practice.
