_This is the English reading version of the Dutch news item [COMSOL kondigt MCP-server aan voor zijn simulatiesoftware](https://vibecad.nl/2026/10/23/comsol-mcp-server-simulatiesoftware/)._

COMSOL has announced an MCP server for COMSOL Multiphysics 2027, the version due
later this autumn. The server is not here yet: this is an announcement of a release
that still has to come.

What it comes down to: an AI agent will be able to work with COMSOL directly. According
to COMSOL, the agent gets access to everything the software itself can do, across
every stage of the modelling work. So an agent can build or change a model, start
a simulation, look at the results and decide on that basis what the next step is.
The user follows and corrects the work in COMSOL Desktop.

That is a step beyond what was already in there. The previous version had a chatbot
window giving advice on modelling and programming. That returned text; this agent
carries the work out. COMSOL describes it as a continuous process of modelling,
simulating, optimising, validating and reporting, in which the engineer stays with
the question. Mikael Sterner, in charge of development at COMSOL: _“Engineers can
focus more on the questions they want to answer, with agents helping to carry out
the simulation work.”_

There is more in version 2027: COMSOL Systems couples system diagrams to 1D, 2D
and 3D models with almost five thousand ready-made components, a module for electric
motors and generators is coming, and the Application Builder will work on macOS
and Linux as well. COMSOL gives no date, only “later this autumn”. A webinar about
version 2027 is scheduled for 15 December.

**My verdict:** this is simulation, not CAD design, so it sits next to your modelling
work rather than inside it. But it shows where the large vendors are heading: not
an AI button in the software, but an agent that operates the tool itself, while
the engineer sets the goals and approves the work. What you give up is the same
question as with any closed connection: your model and your computed results stay
with the vendor and with the model you put on it. About the price, the licence and
the date of the MCP server, COMSOL says nothing. I am keeping an eye on it and will
report here when the version arrives.
